Melanie Fridl Ross named immediate past president

Melanie Fridl Ross has been named 2011-12 immediate past president of the American Medical Writers Association. Ross is director of Health Science Center News & Communications at the University of Florida and is on the adjunct faculty at UF's College of Journalism and Communications, where she teaches news reporting. She also is senior producer of “Health in a Heartbeat,” which airs on public radio affiliates in 18 states and Washington, D.C.

Honda of Gainesville sales consultant Harris Walters was recently honored by American Honda Motor Co. for achieving Gold level membership in the 2011 Council of Sales Leadership recognition program. This is his third time receiving the award.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency, announced 152 Florida Guard and Reserve members have nominated their employers for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense's highest recognition for employers supporting members of the Guard and Reserve. Nominated from the Gainesville area are Alachua Sheriff Sadie Darnell and the North Florida South Georgia Veterans Health System.
