Vince Neil, the lead singer of famed metal band Mötley Crue, has been booked for a May 5 concert at the Ocala Jai-Alai fronton in Orange Lake.
Ocala concert promoter Angie Cabret said she wanted to make a big splash with her new business, 3D Touring Design & Productions, so she sought a “heavy hitter.”
“Mötley Crue happens to be one of my favorite bands,” said Cabret, who used to book acts for the Ocala Entertainment Complex. She has contacts with Bigg Time Entertainment, which represents Neil, and she said it took about two days land the show.
One of the wilder and darker acts of the hair-metal era, Mötley Crue - fronted by Neil - topped rock and pop charts in the early 1980s with “Shout at the Devil.” The band went on to sell tens of millions of records and score heaps of heavy metal hits, including “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Dr. Feelgood.” The band broke up and regrouped and continues to tour, with Neil also performing solo gigs and recording.
The heavily tattooed singer with the blond mane and up-to-something grin also is no stranger to movies and television. He had a small role in the 1990 comedy “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” and, among other on-camera gigs, competed on ABC’s “Skating With the Stars” in 2010.
More notably, the wild rocker proved to be one of the more level-headed celebrities on TV’s “The Surreal Life” in 2002. In that reality show, he lived in a house with MC Hammer, Emmanuel Lewis, Brande Roderick, Corey Feldman, Gabrielle Carteris and Jerri Manthey.
Neil’s latest CD is 2010’s “Tattoos & Tequila.”
Ocala Jai-Alai seats 1,500. Tickets are $25, $35 and $50, and VIP packages are available. They are available through Ocala Jai-Alai, Sound Exchange in Ocala and www.3DTDP.com.
