And they won't be the last.

Schutte suffered a broken jaw against Gardner-Webb on March 2 when a wayward throw struck her in the face.

“If we get her back at all this season, it won't be for a long time,” said Florida softball coach Tim Walton.

Schutte was leading the Gators with a .477 average and is still second with 23 RBIs despite missing the last eight games. She had surgery March 5 to insert a plate in her jaw and wire it shut.

Kelsey Horton has taken over the catching duties as Florida tries to make it five Women's College World Series appearances in a row.

“I couldn't ask for Kelsey to do a better job,” Walton said. “We can't replace Brittany's bat in the lineup. Our run production has dropped in half since her injury. We just have to find a way to figure it out.”
