Florida sophomore All-American Alaina Johnson is this week's Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Auburn's Bri Guy is the SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week.
Johnson posted the Gators' season-best all-around total of 39.625 last Friday in Florida's win at No. 17 Auburn. It was Johnson's first all-around win of the season and the fourth in her career. Her all-around score is the nation's fourth-highest total of the season and the highest of any posted last weekend. Johnson also equaled her collegiate-best vault score of 9.95 for the second consecutive meet to share the vault title with freshman Kytra Hunter.
This is Johnson's first league honor of the season. In 2011, Johnson was named the SEC Gymnast of the week once and the SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week four times. She finished her debut season as the SEC Freshman of the Year and picked up three All-America honors as she became only the second Gator in the program's history to advance to three NCAA Individual Event Finals (vault, bars, floor) in a single year.
