No. 1 Florida softball put up a season-high 15 runs in the five-inning series finale against Michigan State Sunday to sweep the Spartans, 15-4, and improve to an undefeated 9-0 on the season, while serving MSU (1-7) its seventh loss of the year.
The Gators used three runs in the first inning, two in the second, seven in the third — it's largest output in an inning so far this year — and three in the fourth to overcome the Spartans for their eighth run-rule of the 2012 campaign and third-straight five-inning victory.
Next up, UF will head to the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, starting with contests against Texas A&M and Washington Feb. 23.
Lacrosse: The No. 4 Gators pulled out their first road victory of the season, defeating UMBC, 18-6, in the Retrievers' season opener. The win lifts the Gators to 2-1 on the year.
Kitty Cullen led Florida with six points in the game, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists, while Ashley Bruns and Nicole Graziano each recorded five points. Graziano scored the first five goals of her career, and Bruns tied a personal best with four assists.
The Gators return home Friday to host Siena in a non-conference matchup at 6:30 p.m.
Men's Tennis: The fifth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team wrapped up play at the 2012 ITA National Indoor Championships with a 4-0 loss to No. 10 Duke at the Boar's Head Tennis Club in Charlottesville, Va.
With the loss the Gators fall to 6-3 in dual action, while the Blue Devils improve to 9-1.
Florida returns to action on Feb. 28, when they host USF at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex at 3 p.m.
