Five-star wide receiver Stefon Diggs accepted a scholarship offer to play football for Maryland during a celebration Friday night at a College Park, Md., restaurant.
Diggs, of Our Lady Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md., selected Maryland over UF, Ohio State and Auburn.
Maryland pulled away as the late favorite after Diggs visited the campus last weekend, just days after National Signing Day, and received a roaring welcome from the Terrapin student body at the Maryland vs. North Carolina basketball game last Saturday. Diggs said he faxed his national letter of intent at noon Friday and knew Maryland would be his choice for four days.
There were no ESPN cameras or a podium speech for Diggs, who made his announcement in a pub located a short distance from Maryland’s campus before a crowd wearing mostly Terrapin colors.
“I want to win championships and what’s a better place to do it than in your city,” ESPN reported Diggs said.
