Police said a man suspected of burglarizing the office at Morningside Nature Center was found hiding on the roof early Tuesday.
The Gainesville Police Department arrested Timothy Lamont Brooks, 36, of 1817 NE 17th Way, on charges of burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
Officer Warren Brown was dispatched to the center at 3540 E. University Ave. at 11:40 p.m. Monday after a burglar alarm sounded. In an arrest report, Brown wrote that Brooks refused commands to come out of the building and was found hiding on the roof several hours later.
Brown estimated that Brooks did about $1,000 in damages to a ceiling, vent system and lighting fixtures.
Following his arrest, Brooks refused to answer any questions and was booked into the Alachua County jail.
