A Williston woman was able to get her 5-year-old son out of a house fire and firefighters were able to help save the woman's horses. However, the woman's mobile home and some of her land was destroyed by the Monday fire.
Sandra Adame, of 19990 NE 17 Place in Williston, told the Levy County Sheriff's Office that she had been outside feeding horses when she noticed smoke coming from the home. She was able to get her son out of the house, then ran down the road and flagged down a passing driver to call 911.
The Williston Fire Department worked to limit the spread of the fire that was moving rapidly toward the horse paddocks across extremely dry ground cover.
According to the sheriff's office, the horses were not harmed but the mobile home was destroyed.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation on Tuesday.
