Timeline of events related to the Interstate 75 crashes

2:45 p.m. -- Brush fire reported at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, which is bisected by Interstate 75 and U.S. 441.

11:45 p.m. -- After a crash on 441 is caused by smoke from the fire, police divert traffic to I-75.

Midnight -- Florida Highway Patrol closes I-75 for the first time.


3-3:30 a.m. -- Interstate reopened.

3:30-4 a.m. -- Fatal accidents on I-75.

4 a.m. -- I-75 closed again, sending traffic through Williston and Hawthorne as the normal detour, U.S. 441, remained closed.

11 a.m. -- U.S. 441 reopened.

5:45 p.m. -- Northbound I-75 reopened.
