It has been quite a 24-hour period for Gainesville High wrestling.

On Friday, the Hurricanes won the city championship for the seventh time in eight years. On Saturday, also at the Santa Fe College gym, Gainesville captured the Bobcat Duals, topping five straight opponents, including Columbia for the title, 45-30.

Prior to facing the Tigers in the final, the ‘Canes beat Bradford (35-21), Belleview (54-21), Middleburg (57-24) and host Buchholz (48-36). Along the way, Ryland Wagner picked up his 200th dual win as GHS coach.

“That's pretty special to pick up my 200th win in nine years,” Wagner said. “It has been a great weekend for us.”

In the featured match at 106 pounds, featuring two of the state's best, sophomore Jon Gardner of GHS defeated Columbia's Cole Schreiber, 7-3.

The Bradford wrestling team, coached by last season’s Sun coach of the year Dana Arthur, had five wrestlers go undefeated on the day.

Jarraid Forsyth, Cody Hankerson, Devin Paulk, Phillip James and Brent Kebby all finished 5-0 on the afternoon for the Tornadoes.
