A Gainesville man was arrested after police say he hit another man in the head with a baseball bat late Thursday night.
Gainesville police charged Phillip Darrell Robertson Jr., 29, of 1908 SW 14th Terrace, with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, according to an arrest report.
The report states that Robertson got into an argument with several other men after they were drinking beer together. Robertson is accused of going to his nearby house, getting a wooden bat and returning to the other men.
Two victims were in the house and Robertson smashed the window with the bat, the report states. When one man opened the door, Robertson hit him on the head with the bat, police said. The man had a large laceration and was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the report.
The other man was able to subdue Robertson and got poked in the eye in the process, police said. Under police questioning, Robertson admitted hitting the man with the bat and poking the other in the eye, the report states.
