A home in southern Alachua County was destroyed Friday night by a fire, the cause of which is not known.
Alachua County Fire Rescue District Chief Harold Theus said the fire was reported about 8:51 p.m. in a home on U.S. 301 just south of County Road 325 near the Marion County line. Firefighters arrived to find flames erupting from the roof, Theus said, adding that the 2,700-square-foot home was a total loss.
No one was home at the time and no one was injured. ACFR was able to locate the owners and eventually accounted for the safety of all family members.
The state Fire Marshal’s office will investigate the cause. Theus said units from Marion County Fire Rescue and the Cross Creek Fire Department assisted with the effort.
