Pink Wish

The Gainesville chapter of the Pink Wish Foundation Inc. will host its first Pink Circle of Mentorship Retreat for girls in K-8th grades.

It will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Center for Innovation and Economic Development at 530 W. University Ave. The cost is free for members and $15 for non-members.

Featured will be exercises in image enhancement, cultural exposure, physical health and more.

The group also is in need of mentors ages 16 and up in etiquette, academics, economics and outreach. Mentors must attend training and a monthly event and check in via the website.

Cardiac testing

The Cardiovascular Technology Program at Santa Fe College is looking for volunteers to assist students with carotid and cardiac ultrasound testing.

The free tests will be administered on Feb. 3, Feb. 17, March 16 and March 30.

Elections scholarship

College and university students are encouraged to apply for a $1,200 scholarship through the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections.

The deadline to apply is March 19 and the scholarship will be awarded in June.

Applicants must be enrolled or accepted as a junior or senior at an accredited Florida university or college and be either a political science major, a public or business administration major or a journalism/mass communications major.

Delta run/walk

The Gainesville alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host the Listen to Your Heart 5K Run/Walk to increase awareness of heart health issues.

The run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Northeast Park at 400 NE 16th Ave., with on-site registration at 7 a.m.

The Write Side of Me Productions Inc. is looking for a cameraman to work for free as the director of photography for an independent film.

Medieval Faire

Experience a world of medieval magic at the 26th annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire.

It will take place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday and Feb. 4-5 at the Alachua County Fairgrounds, 2900 NE 39th Ave. Admission is $14 for adults, $7 for children ages 5 to 17 and free for children under 5.

Featured will be booths, actors, musicians and street performers, a food court and children's entertainment.

Icon Search

Get ready for the American Icon Search regional finals sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Florida and SAFEID4Families.

Twenty musicians, including soloists and bands, will compete for a chance to win a $50,000 music production package from 3RDLEVELMEDIA, a Gainesville artist development and music production company.
