M. "Renee" Jackson: Why I support Armando Grundy

The tenure of this year’s election has been quite disturbing. Recently, the residents in a community I have lived in over 29 years (east Gainesville) have witnessed our Mayor Craig Lowe and Commissioners Hawkins, Mastrodicasa and Bottcher promoting a candidate (Yvonne Hinson-Rawls) who has not lived in our community in many years. What is even more disturbing are the comments and racial overtones in the form of comments in the newspaper coming from the mayor and the three commissioners. The mayor and his cohorts should exercise better judgment; he is implying that another candidate of color is not intelligent or mature. His messaging shows a true lack of respect for the black community.

As a woman of color I can see through all of this petty divisiveness and will not be voting for the candidate he has contributed to and endorsed. I will be casting my ballot for the young man he and his cohorts have chosen to disparage. I encourage all resident residing in District 1 to vote for Armando Grundy.

M. "Renee" Jackson,

Gainesville
