High Springs Interim Police Chief Bill Benck will resign.

Late Monday afternoon, Benck confirmed that he provided the city with two weeks' notice earlier that day. He declined to comment on his decision in further detail until Tuesday.

High Springs hired Benck as a lieutenant in December 2010. Prior to that, he had a long career with the Gainesville Police Department.

Benck has been acting chief since late August, when the contract of former Police Chief Jim Troiano was terminated in what then Interim City Manager Jenny Parham described as a budget-cutting decision.
