Classes for the hearing-impaired scheduled

Free classes for the hearing impaired to improve their communication abilities will be offered starting Jan. 30.
The University of Florida Speech and Hearing Loss Clinic and the Gainesville chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of Florida are offering a series of four classes, beginning with “Coping with Hearing Loss,” that will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the following Mondays: Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20. Session 2, “A Thousand Ways to say 'Huh,' ” will be April 2, April 9, April 16 and April 23.
The dates for Session 3, “Handling Difficult Learning Situations,” and Session 4, “What Other Help is There?,” will be announced subsequently.
Also, beginning Jan. 30, a free series of lip-reading classes will help those with hearing loss develop communication confidence in difficult listening situations. Those classes will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Mondays.
All the classes are being held at the United Way of North Central Florida office, 6031 NW 1st Place, Gainesville.
