Roundup: Mesic sets UF shot put record

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior thrower Kemal Mesic set a new Florida record in the shot put to highlight the start of the 2012 season at the Alabama Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday.
The five-time All-American and reigning SEC Indoor Champion in the shot put bested his own previous school record of 19.53m/64-1 with a throw of 19.95m/65-05.50, an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, a Birmingham Crossplex record and the longest throw of the day by nearly three meters.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Florida's Caroline Hitimana won a pair of singles matches to highlight the Gators' second day of action at the 10th annual Freeman Memorial Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus.
SWIMMING & DIVING: Both the women's and men's squad picked up victories, respectively. The women scored 159 points to Florida Atlantic's 115, to improve to 6-1 on the year and 16-0 in program history against FAU. The men, short eight swimmers while competing in Dallas for the Dallas Classic, defeated FAU 162-120 to stay undefeated on the year at 4-0-1.
