Orange Co. deputy shoots, kills man

ORLANDO — The Orange County Sheriff's Office a man was shot and killed when he came toward a deputy after ignoring orders to show his hands.

The shooting happened about 12:19 a.m. Friday as the deputy was on patrol.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Ginette Rodriguez told the Orlando Sentinel (http://thesent.nl/zo1sj7 ) the man was acting suspiciously. She says the deputy fired because he feared for his life when the man "advanced on him."

The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

The deputy is a 7-year veteran of the sheriff's office. He is on administrative leave pending a review by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
