A University of Florida student was robbed of her purse at gunpoint early Friday morning, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
No one was injured during the holdup.
The 24-year-old woman told investigators that she and a 27-year-old friend were walking together near Southwest Ninth Street and Sixth Avenue at about 12:19 a.m. The women told officers they were approached by a man who put a silver handgun in the younger woman's face and told her to give up her purse.
Police spokeswoman Cpl. Angelina Valuri said the woman handed over her purse and then fell to the ground.
"Her purse contained her passport, $10 in cash, a debit card and her apartment keys," Valuri said.
A K-9 team was called in and followed a track to the back yard of a home in the 500 block of Southwest 10th Street near a fire pit.
"And that is where they found the purse," Valuri said. "It appeared to have been rummaged through."
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 955-1818.
