Five-time track and field All-American and four-time NCAA Champion senior sprinter Jeff Demps will compete for the preseason No. 1 Florida track and field program.

Demps is joined by a talented core group of returners, including jumper Omar Craddock, sprinter and 2011 USA 400m Champion Tony McQuay), heptathlete Gray Horn, shot-putter Kemal Mesic and hurdler Eddie Lovett among others.

Demps, who will look for a 2012 Olympic bid to London, hopes to pursue a track and field professional career after his time at Florida and bypass an attempt at the NFL.

The Gators open the season Saturday at the Alabama Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
