Marion County Commissioner Charlie Stone had three ways to mark turning 64 on Thursday: a homemade carrot cake at his office, dinner at a Salt Springs seafood restaurant he had never been to before and filing to run for the state Legislature.

Stone filed papers to seek the redrawn House District 22 seat, which is now held by Rep. Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, but would become vacant under most redistricting scenarios now floating around Tallahassee.

Stone announced publicly last April that he would not seek a third term on the commission, but said in an interview Thursday that the redistricting maps convinced him that a House run could be successful.
