SPARR — Thanks to a strong defensive outing, Eastside finds itself in the driver's seat in District 6-5A.

The Rams held host North Marion to its lowest scoring output of the season and picked up a 46-37 win on Tuesday night.

With the win, Eastside (12-2, 3-0) now sits in first place all alone, while the Colts (9-4, 2-1) missed a golden opportunity to take the lead.

The two teams will meet again in Gainesville on Jan. 24, but Eastside has the momentum to take the top spot for the four-team district tournament, which will take place in Sparr next month.

The previous low for North Marion was a 46-point effort against Dunnellon on Dec. 1.

The Rams held North Marion to a 15-of-46 shooting effort, keyed by a 2-of-16 start in the opening quarter.

Sir Jackson (14 points, 10 rebounds), Marcus Richards (10 points) and Barry Johnson (eight points) paced Eastside.

Eastside took complete control of the game thanks to its defense, as it didn't allow North Marion to score a basket for a span of 5:55 overlapping the opening two quarters.

During that span, the Rams outscored the Colts 11-1 and led by a 20-8 count with 6:14 left in the half.

From there, North Marion used an 8-2 run to get to within 22-16 at halftime.

Eastside, which made just one basket over the final six minutes of the first half, saw the Colts get as close as four and to within six on two other occasions in the second half.

After North Marion got to within six with 5:49 left, the Rams used a 6-0 run and the Colts never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Eastside made 18 of 48 shots and 7 of 16 free throws, yet was able to frustrate North Marion at seemingly every turn.

Travis Fletcher led the Colts with 11 points, but needed 11 shots to accumulate them. Latrial Patterson grabbed 10 rebounds for North Marion, which outrebounded Eastside 38-30.
