Two people, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed in Levy County over the weekend in separate accidents involving ATVs, according to reports.
In the first accident, Cheyenne Ellis, 12, of Trenton, was driving a Yamaha Rhino at the Gulf Hammock Hunt Club at 10:15 p.m. Saturday with 5-year-old Brody Ellis of Cedar Key as her passenger, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
She lost control of the vehicle on a limerock road and was tossed from the ATV as it spun around. The vehicle flipped over and landed on her, according to the FHP.
Brody was taken to Shands at the University of Florida with minor injuries.
Neither Cheyenne nor Brody were wearing seat belts or helmets, according to the report, which did not indicate if the two are related.
Sometime around 2 a.m. Sunday, Lucas Benjamin Corbitt was driving a Yamaha ATV north on Northeast 115th Avenue when the left-front tire struck an embankment, the FHP reported.
The ATV overturned, tossing Corbitt, 22, of Bronson.
A local resident walking on the dirt road at around Northeast 74th Lane found Corbitt at around 9:30 a.m., the report notes. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
