An 8-week-old baby and an adult were hospitalized in serious condition Saturday following an accident in Levy County, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.

Taken to Shands at the University of Florida were Ashley A. Wilcox, 24, of Bronson, and Aidan J. Shirley, also of Bronson, according to an FHP press release, which did not state the relationship between Wilcox and the baby.

The accident happened about 2 p.m. on Levy County Road 337 at the Alachua County line.

Wilcox was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra southbound on CR 337, suffered some sort of medical condition and ran off the road onto the east shoulder, the release states.

The front of the car struck a culvert and a power pole. The car rotated clockwise and overturned. The baby was ejected from the car, the release states.
