2 arrested on drug charges

Two Gainesville men were arrested on drug charges Friday afternoon when Alachua County sheriff's deputies found about one pound of cocaine in their car during a traffic stop, according to arrest reports.

Charged with possession and trafficking cocaine were Richard Demetric Mays, 26, of 314 SE 13th St., and Chauncey Lequinte Presley, 32, of 4512 SW 74th Terrace, Apt. C.

About 1:04 p.m., Deputy Ricky Robinson stopped the car Presley was driving at 9500 S. U.S. 441 to check for possibly illegal window tint, the report states.

Presley appeared nervous and would not give permission for his car to be searched, Robinson reported. A police dog was called and detected drugs. Found in the car was a one-gallon bag with about one pound of cocaine, the report states.

GPD: Teens found with Molotov in car

Two Alachua County teenagers who were spotted shooting car windows with BB or pellet guns were arrested early Saturday morning after police found Molotov cocktails and a loaded flare gun in their car, according to arrest reports.

David Gabriel Sonenstein, 18, and Stephen Denard Hutchinson, 18, were charged with multiple counts of criminal mischief, Gainesville police reported.

Police had gotten reports of men in a 1989 white Ford four-door driving around downtown Gainesville and adjoining neighborhoods and shooting out the windows of parked cars.

An officer spotted a car matching the description, and Sonenstein and Hutchinson matched the descriptions given by witnesses. Police searched the car and found two pellet guns, a box of about 6,000 BBs, three gasoline bombs known as Molotov cocktails and a loaded flare gun.

Baby hospitalized after Levy crash

An 8-week-old baby and an adult were hospitalized in serious condition Saturday following an accident in Levy County, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.

Taken to Shands at the University of Florida were Ashley A. Wilcox, 24, of Bronson, and Aidan J. Shirley, also of Bronson, according to an FHP press release.

The release did not specify the relationship between Wilcox and the baby.

The accident happened about 2 p.m. on Levy County Road 337 at the Alachua County line.

Wilcox was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra southbound on CR 337, suffered some sort of medical condition and ran off the road onto the east shoulder, the release states.

The front of the car struck a culvert and a power pole. The car rotated clockwise and overturned. The baby was ejected from the car, the release states.
