Mac McEachern: Why I support Ray Washington
Some of the Gainesville City commissioners are elected from districts but must serve the whole community. Any commissioner worth his salt will strive to serve the district that elected him when issues arrive that pertain to that area and he will depend on his fellow commissioners to support those issues as well.
Ray Washington is running for election from District 1 and is the most qualified to fill the needs of the district and the obligations to the city as a whole. He has lived in District 1 more of his adult life than any other candidate, and is the only candidate who has raised a family in District 1.
Economic development and jobs are a major concern and good utility rates are necessary to achieve these objectives particularly among the voters in District 1. Ray Washington is best suited to address this issue and receive the support of his fellow commissioners on this and other District 1 concerns. Ray Washington’s long service to Gainesville as a reporter and attorney give him outstanding qualifications for the office. Join me in supporting Ray Washington for City Commission district 1.
