An elderly driver died Wednesday night after he turned in front of oncoming traffic, police said.
Traffic investigators for the Gainesville Police Department said Gurgon Hamilton, 72, was making a left turn onto Northeast 39th Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when his vehicle was hit on the driver's side by an eastbound pickup truck that had the right of way, police said.
Hamilton was taken to Shands at the University of Florida in serious condition and died there about four hours after the crash, police spokeswoman Corp. Angelina Valuri said.
