A Gainesville man was driving drunk when he missed a curve and plowed into a boulder, hitting it hard enough to push it into West Newberry Road, authorities said.

Gainesville Police Officer Steven Carter said that Brandon Kyle Hanson, 29, of 8413 SW 4th Place, was driving west on 8th Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday when the crash occurred. Hanson missed a curve and hit a boulder that was in the yard of the Corda-Roy's store at the intersection of W. Newberry Road and 8th Avenue, Carter wrote in an arrest report. A tow truck dragged the boulder out of the driving lanes.

Carter said Hanson refused to take a breath test, but he failed four field sobriety tests and was arrested on a DUI charge.
