Florida senior Joanna Mather reached the final of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, but fell short of capturing the individual singles title as she dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to SMU’s 10th-ranked Marta Lesniak at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Sunday.

“Jo played well but her opponent was on top of her game today and throughout this tournament,” UF coach Roland Thornqvist said. “She has no regrets about her play today or the way she played this weekend. I’m so proud of how she represented herself and our program. She competed hard, physically and mentally and earned her spot in the finals.”

The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships is the second leg of the collegiate grand slam. This weekend marked the final competition of the fall.
