Kelsey Sack had 11 digs, nine service points, two aces and eight kills as St. Francis defeated South Daytona Warner Christian, 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22 in Tuesday night's Class 3A, Region 2 quarterfinals.
Shannon Richards added 11 assists, nine digs and eight service points, including two aces as the Wolves (19-9) knocked off the three-time defending Class 1A state champion Eagles (12-15).
“Anytime you are in a playoff situation, it is about survive and advance,” St. Francis coach Nick Cheronis said. “It doesn't need to be pretty, it just needs to be a gutty win on the road and that is what we got.”
Kathryn Herrington had eight kills and four blocks, and Paige Stockman had six kills for St. Francis, which pulled out the four-set win.
St. Francis will now travel to face district and city rival P.K. Yonge in next Tuesday's Class 3A, Region 1 semifinals. The Wolves lost both regular-season meetings and fell to P.K. Yonge in last week's District 3-3A title match. St. Francis, which is in the regional playoffs for the sixth straight year, lost to the Blue Wave in last year's regional semifinals.
Class 5A, Region 1: Suwannee, making its first regional playoff appearance since 1999, lost at Gulf Breeze, 25-8, 25-6, 25-4 on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs end the season at 7-12. Gulf Breeze (21-4) will host a regional semifinals match next Tuesday.
