TAMPA, Fla. — A sheriff's deputy is hospitalized after a shooting at a Tampa apartment complex.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Lyonelle De Veaux was shot at least three times late Friday by a suspect who then barricaded himself in an apartment.

Detective Larry McKinnon says De Veaux was sedated and hospitalized Saturday in serious but stable condition.

De Veaux had responded to a 911 call from the apartment complex.

McKinnon says deputies early Saturday used an explosive charge to breach the door of the apartment where the suspect had barricaded himself. Deputies found the 24-year-old suspect unconscious in a closet.

The suspect also was hospitalized Saturday. McKinnon says he had no visible signs of injury and it was unclear why he was unconscious.
