PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Authorities say a Florida man has been found in good health after his boat drifted into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Stephen Yobuck of Lake Suzy was reported missing Friday afternoon, about 12 hours after he had been due to return to the Placida marina.

A sheriff's office aircraft spotted the boater Friday evening about 15 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico off Sanibel. State wildlife officers towed Yobuck's boat back to shore.

According to the sheriff's office, Yobuck told authorities his boat suffered mechanical problems and drifted into the gulf, even after he tried rigging a make-shift sail.
