A man wanted by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on murder charges has been arrested in northwest Gainesville, authorities said Thursday.

Clarence Jones, 20, of Jacksonville, was located by the U.S. Marshals Service regional task force and arrested at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday inside an apartment at Hampton Courts, 6415 NW 23rd Terrace.

Members of the task force — including investigators from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, the Gainesville Police Department and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office — were involved in Jones' apprehension.

Jones' arrest warrant stemmed from a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex in north Jacksonville on Aug. 5, the Marshals Service said. An investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office determined Jones and two associates, during an altercation, fired multiple shots into a vehicle occupied by three individuals, killing one occupant, the Marshals Service added.

Jones was arrested without incident, then booked into the Alachua County jail, where he is being held without bond.
