The freshman, listed as the No. 3 tight end, had surgery today for a torn meniscus. He could redshirt, Muschamp said.

Freshman defensive end Clay Burton will move to tight end to add depth and Omarius Hines, who played there some last year, will also be a tight end in certain situations.

Other notes by Muschamp: He's pleased with the overall progress of the quarterbacks. Freshman QB Jacoby Brissett has a big-time arm and is going to be a great player for the Gators, he said. He will catch up because of intelligence. ... The Gators have not had heat issues so far. ... Freshman defensive back Marcus Roberson has all the critical factors you're looking for in a DB. ... Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey have distanced themselves from the other tailbacks.
