Weekly road report for August 1

The following road work by Alachua County and the Florida Department of Transportation could impact traffic this week.

Alachua County:

Archer Road - Daytime lane closures just east of Southwest 37th Boulevard to modify the driveway into the former Wendy’s.

Hawthorne Road - Crews will be repainting the roadway lines from Waldo Road to the Putnam County line which is a moving operation.

Interstate 75 - Daytime lane closures from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. for northbound traffic at the Newberry Road interchange for work on widening the exit ramps. Northbound traffic is shifted to the west just south of the interchange because of the addition of a barrier wall on the east side of the project. The speed limit is reduced to 60 mph around the clock and the truck restrictions are lifted from three miles south of the interchange to just north of State Road 26 encouraging semi-trucks to use the far left lane as well as the center lane.

Interstate 75 - Crews will be repainting the roadway lines from the Marion County to Columbia County lines.

Main Street - Resurfacing and signalization project from Northwest Eighth Avenue to Northwest 23rd Avenue. This project includes placing the final layer of asphalt on the roadway from Northwest 14th Avenue to just north of 16th Avenue, the reconstruction of the signals at Northwest 10th Avenue and Northwest 16th Avenue, sidewalk construction, and the placement of fiber-optic cable to connect the signals to the Traffic Management Center. A construction contract was awarded to APAC-Southeast for $1.2 million. Work will begin on June 20, 2011, and last through December 2011. Most of the work between Northwest Eighth Avenue and Northwest 16th Avenue will take place at night, but the public should still expect delays when traveling through this area. There will be possible daytime lane closures north of University Avenue for asphalt repairs this week.

Newberry Road at I-75 - Daytime lane closures after 8:30 a.m. at the interchange with I-75 for work on a new traffic signal foundation as part of the northbound I-75 ramp widening.

Newberry Road - Daytime lane closures from the Gilchrist County line to Northwest 34th Street to repaint the roadway markings. Also, crews will be repainting the roadway lines which is a moving operation.

Northeast 39th Avenue - Daytime lane closures just east of North Main Street to modify driveways to a new Gainesville Nissan dealership.

Northeast and Northwest 39th Avenue - Daytime lane closures from west of Interstate 75 to State Road 26 to repaint the roadway markings.

Northwest Sixth Street - Crews will be repainting the roadway lines from Northwest Eighth Avenue to US 441 which is a moving operation.

Northwest and Southwest 91st Street - The roadway will be resurfaced from Newberry Road to Southwest Eighth Avenue. This project includes milling and resurfacing the existing roadway, widening and relocating the existing sidewalk, and adding curb and gutter to portions of the road. A construction contract was awarded to DAB Constructors, Inc. for $1.3 million. Work began on June 13, 2011, and last through October 2011. The public should expect daily daytime lane closures and delays when traveling through this area.

Southeast 16th Avenue - Daytime lane closures possible just east of South Main Street for driveway and sidewalk work at a new Family Dollar store.

State Road 26 - Daytime lane closures just east and west of the new US 301 overpass in Orange Heights to place the final layer of asphalt.

University Avenue - Daytime lane closures to repaint the roadway markings between Northwest 34th Street and Waldo Road. Also, crews will be repainting the roadway lines between Northwest 13th and 34th streets which is a moving operation.

US 301 - Daytime lane closures from the Marion to Bradford County lines to repaint the roadway markings. Crews will also be repainting the roadway lines which is a moving operation.

US 441 - Possible daytime lane closures north of Northwest 109th Lane (north of the GRU power plant) at the Gainesville Renewable Energy Center for driveway and turn lane modifications. Also, crews will be repainting the roadway lines from Northwest Sixth Street to the Columbia County line which is a moving operation.
