The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting of a donkey last week.
The donkey was shot through the head sometime after Thursday afternoon while in a pasture at Bellefield South Farm near Micanopy.
A farm worker found the donkey dead over the weekend, about 50 yards from the roadway. Sheriff's investigators searched the area and recovered a .270 shell casing near the farm's fence line and noted there were tire marks on the grass shoulder nearby, according to reports.
