In the tentative world of college football recruiting, there seems to be one certainty.

Jeremi Powell is a Gator.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound linebacker from Pinellas Park High School in Largo who is ranked No. 19 on's linebackers list, confirmed his love for the Gators at Friday Night Lights.

"I had a lot of fun (at Friday Night Lights), it was pretty cool," Powell said. "There was a lot of competition out there, the coaches were great, and I had a chance to showcase my speed, which is the strongest part of my game.

"This is my first and only camp. I love the Gators. There's nothing better than them."

Powell had 15 sacks and averaged more than 10 tackles per game during his junior year for the Patriots, who finished 5-5 last season.

He also had 45 receptions, but says the Gators will be using him strictly on the defensive side of the ball.

"(The coaches) say I could end up playing the WILL or SAM linebacker spots, but probably just the SAM spot depending on how things go," Powell said.

"We also talked about the possibility that I would end up starting right away, but hey, that's up to me, I just have to come in and prove myself."

Powell committed to Florida in February, the fifth recruit to do so from the 2012 class. He picked the Gators over offers from Alabama, Iowa State, Purdue, South Carolina and USF.

"This is it for me this summer, I don't want to mess up anything (by visiting any other school), there really isn't any purpose — I’m a Gator," Powell said.

"It is time for me to start focusing on my last year in high school, to do what I gotta do, to make sure I am as ready as I can be to play right away for Florida."
