For the second time in the last year, redshirt freshman defensive end/outside linebacker Chris Martin is looking for a new school to pursue his football career.
Martin, who transferred to Florida from Cal last summer, has decided Gainesville is not the place for him. UF coach Will Muschamp announced Friday that Martin, who is from Aurora, Colo., intends to transfer from the program.
“Chris and his family have indicated that it might be the best for him to be closer to home,” Muschamp said Friday. “We wish him nothing but the best of luck.”
Martin redshirted this past season and was battling for playing time this spring at defensive end and outside linebacker.
Martin was arrested in downtown Gainesville on Jan. 29 for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He agreed to deferred prosecution and his case never went to trial.
Martin was one of the nation's top defensive end recruits coming out of high school. He was a consensus five-star prospect.
