The Turkey Creek Golf and Country Club shut down Friday as announced, and owners and managers are trying to determine if they have enough support to reopen the club after meeting Wednesday night with homeowners of the community located south of Alachua.
Of about 300 people in attendance, about 200 signed up as being interested in some type of membership, said Walter Smith, part-owner of the club. He said they would have to see how many of those would be new members and whether they would provide enough support to reopen the club. He said he did not know when a decision would be made.
PGA golf pro and consultant John Reger Jr. presented a plan for taking over management of the club.
The club has been losing golfers since the recession hit, making it difficult to keep up with needed upgrades to the golf course and clubhouse.
Chef's Brothers Catering and Chef's Garden restaurant remain open in the clubhouse.
