A Bradford County man with a previous sex conviction was arrested Monday on a child pornography charge after investigators found more than 200 images of apparent child pornography on a cell phone, Bradford Sheriff’s Capt. Brad Smith reported.

Rymer Howell, 59, of 1002 Butler Road, was charged with possession of child pornography. Howell has a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious conduct with a 13-year-old. His bond was set at $100,000.

Smith reported that the case began in August when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided information to police in Prince Williams County, Va. A juvenile had begun by chatting with strangers in a cell phone chat room. That eventually led to additional cell phone texts and chats with Howell, Smith reported.

Subpoenas for phone records confirmed the telephone number belonging to Howell. Bradford investigators went to his home Monday, confiscating two cells phones. Smith said one contained what appear to be more than 200 images of child pornography.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible. Smith said Howell did not own a computer and told investigators that too many people get caught by police on child porn charges on their computers.
