SEMINOLE, Fla. — A Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy shot a suspect during a police pursuit.
Authorities say the incident happened Sunday night after the deputy received a call regarding a driver who was possibly armed and under the influence. Deputies pulled the driver over but he drove off when they asked him to get out of the vehicle.
A pursuit following, during which the driver rammed into the deputy's cruiser and hit a passing Toyota truck, causing it to flip on its side.
That's when deputies fired at the suspect, striking him.
The suspect was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he died. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to the hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives are continuing an investigation.
