Foreclosure defense attorney David Hicks will be the keynote speaker Feb. 8 at a free workshop in Gainesville about homeowners' legal rights and strategies for fighting foreclosure evictions.

Topics at the Save Your Home foreclosure prevention workshop will include how to work with banks to modify loans, federal foreclosure programs, identifying errors in loan papers, postponing eviction, protecting against foreclosure predators, county agency resources and legal defenses.

Hicks founded the Sarasota-based Alliance Legal Group homeowners' rights defense firm.

He said more homeowners are fighting foreclosures in light of recent allegations of faulty processing and deceptive marketing by banks.

The event is sponsored by the Sarasota-based nonprofit Neighborhood Community Foundation, Legal Aid, Boys and Girls Club, Goodwill Industries and others. It will be held at the SpringHill Suites hotel conference room, 4155 SW 40th Blvd., from 7-9 p.m. Feb. 8. Advance RSVP is requested by calling 877-306-5299.
