An Alachua man was arrested late Friday night on a charge of child abuse for injuring his son during an argument, according to an arrest report.

Charged was Hal Bernard Black, 48, of 13706 NW 158th Ave., following an argument with his son over his curfew, the Alachua Police Department report states.

Black was scolding his son over the curfew when he grabbed him by the side of his neck and head with both hands, lifted him off the ground and threw him on a bed, police reported. The son's back hit the foot board of the bed, causing a welt and scrape, the report states.

Black told officers he had been arguing with his son and that he had grabbed him by his shoulder but not his head, the report adds. He was arrested about 11:30 p.m. and taken to the Alachua County Jail.
