An unattended stove is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a woman's home on Thursday.

The fire was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. by neighbors who said they could see flames coming through the roof of the home at 5511 NE 28th Court in the Lamplighter Mobile Home Park.

The 18 firefighters sent to the scene by Gainesville Fire Rescue were able to bring the fire under control in about five minutes and extinguish it in less than 10 minutes.

Officials said it was not immediately clear whether anyone was inside the home, so a search of the rooms was conducted while the flames were being extinguished but no one was found inside the home.

The Red Cross was called to help assist the woman who lived there find other housing.

Investigators said the fire was caused by the stove being left on.
