TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Five state employees were injured, including one who suffered a broken leg, in an elevator accident at the Department of Education.

Officials say the elevator suddenly dropped five floors Tuesday at the 19-story building located a few blocks southwest of the state Capitol.

The other four employees were treated for various back and knee injuries.

There were eight people on the elevator at the time of the mishap.

It was the second elevator accident of the day at the DOE building. A different elevator failed to open about two hours earlier.

Both elevators were taken out of service until repairs are completed, a department official told the Tallahassee Democrat.
