WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A report from three wildlife organizations is urging lawmakers to take steps to protect sea turtles.

The National Wildlife Federation, the Sea Turtle Conservancy and the Florida Wildlife Federation say funding must be upheld for beach conservation. They also say subsidies should be eliminated for construction along ecologically important coastlines and climate change must be addressed in order to keep the country's population of sea turtles from being further decimated.

The report also details sea turtle deaths and strandings related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. It says more than 700 were found in the spill area through November.
