Boys soccer roundup: Eastside cruises into district final

James Davis scored once and assisted on each of Cheyne Lehnick’s two goals as Eastside blanked Belleview, 4-0 in a District 5-4A semifinal on Wednesday.

Trevor Mimms also scored for the Rams (20-3-2) who will play Ocala Vanguard for the district title Friday at 7 p.m. at Lake Weir.

Eastside clinched its third straight regional playoff appearance with the win and will be looking to claim its first district championship since 2009.

District 4-5A: Buchholz dumped city rival Gainesville, 4-1 in a district quarterfinal game played at Orange Park Ridgeview on Wednesday.

T.J. Atchison scored a pair of goals and had an assist for the Bobcats (14-4-4), who will face the host school, Ridgeview, in today’s semifinals at 7 p.m. Jake Pomar and Connor Cornell had the other goals for Buchholz, which led 2-1 at halftime.

Shane Mulhern scored the lone goal for Gainesville, which ended the season at 9-9-3.

Columbia also saw its season come to a close with a 2-1 overtime quarterfinal-loss to Jacksonville Wolfson. The Tigers’ (15-8-2) Jimmy Blakely tied the game at 1-1 off of a feed from Nick Tuttle in the 71st minute.

But Emir Hedic won the game for Wolfson with a golden goal three minutes into overtime.

District 4-3A: Trey Bland scored with five minutes left in the second overtime to lift Keystone Heights to a thrilling 4-3 district-semifinal win over Jacksonville Bishop Snyder on Wednesday.

Bland also had an assist, while Juan Grimaldo had a goal and an assist for the Indians (11-5-5), who clinched their ninth consecutive regional playoff berth.

Zac Hawkins and Logan Stanley each scored in the first half for Keystone Heights as the game was tied at 2-2 at halftime.

Grimaldo scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes to go in regulation that knotted the score at 3-3.

The Indians, who are looking for their first district championship since 2008, will face Crescent City for the title on Friday at 6 p.m.

District 5-3A: Stuart Brown and Matthew Pennington each scored a pair of goals as Suwannee thumped Newberry 8-0 in a district semifinal on Wednesday.

Jackson Brown scored once and had two assists as the Bulldogs (16-4-2) led 5-0 at halftime.

Scotty Raulerson also had one goal and two assists for Suwannee, which clinched its second straight regional playoff berth. The Bulldogs will face Santa Fe, 5-1 winners over Fort White, for the district title Friday at 7 p.m.

Jarrod Bradley scored a goal and had a pair of assists for the Raiders (14-8-3), who claimed their first regional playoff berth since 2008.

District 3-2A: Arturo Negrete had two goals and an assist as Lafayette edged Tallahassee John Paul II, 4-3 (4-1 in penalty kicks) in a district semifinal on Wednesday.

Jose Rubio scored a pair of goals for the Hornets (8-4-2), who will face host school Tallahassee Maclay for the district title on Friday at 7 p.m.

Ismeal Moreno and Jose Diaz each had a goal and an assist for Lafayette, which secured its second straight regional playoff berth.
