Police said a woman's anger over a break-up was the apparent reason she threw the container holding the ashes of her ex-boyfriend's mother through a window.
Gainesville Police Department officials said Ashley Renee Oxendine, 22, of Gainesville, was retrieving some of her belongings Monday afternoon from the home where she had lived with her boyfriend for several years.
Officer Richard Armstong said the couple got into an argument that escalated into physical violence when Oxendine scratched the man on his right forearm and the top of his left hand, then hit him hard enough on the right side of his face to raise a welt. Armstong said Oxendine picked up the urn containing the ashes and hurled it at a window, spilling some of the ashes and breaking the window.
Oxendine was jailed on charges of domestic battery and criminal mischief.
