MIAMI — Police have identified the two Miami-Dade police officers killed during a shootout in Miami.

The shootout erupted Thursday in a notoriously crime-ridden section of Miami as a team of heavily armed law enforcement agents tried to serve a warrant, leaving the two officers and a suspect dead.

Miami-Dade Police Director James Loftus identified the officers killed as Roger Castillo and Amanda Haworth. He said both of them had more than 20 years of police experience. Loftus said the suspect was 22-year-old Johnny Simms, who had been armed with a handgun.

Loftus said a third officer, Deidree Beecher, was being treated at a hospital for a knee injury.

Loftus added that several people were in custody being questioned, but no arrests have been made.
