ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A man four-wheeling in a muddy ditch with his family found a human skull protruding from a black plastic bag.
Ormond Beach police spokesman Lt. Kenny Hayes said Monday the remains are human. It was not known whether the victim is male or female.
The bones were found near the Ormond Beach Airport Business Park after the all-terrain vehicle 27-year-old Steven Curtis was riding got stuck in the muck. His cousin, 19-year-old Christopher Comino, stopped to help and the men almost stumbled over the skull. Curtis said he tried to shield his daughters -- ages 5 and 8 -- from seeing the remains.
Police are investigating and will review missing persons cases.
